I have been asking myself this question for ages. When the stack next to my desk, sofa, or bed starts to dwindle, or when I come toward the end of a favorite author’s ouevre, I get a bit panicky. I have worked in publishing for many years and have learned that there will always be plenty of books. But plenty of good books? Well, that’s another matter.
This blog is my effort to answer that question. Every day, I try to find some historical anniversary or quirky holiday and build a list of good books around it. Sometimes, I may gush about my current book crush or decry some outrage in the world of publishing, but this space isn’t about me. It’s about you and helping you through those times when it seems like every foray into a new read is a false start, when nothing fires the imagination, or when a lifelong love affair with the written word starts to flag. I want to be your bibliophilic marriage counselor and help you keep your relationship with cable, social media, and streaming to a harmless flirtation.
I hope you find something useful here. Comments are welcome (along with your book recommendations) as are suggestions for other lists or titles to review. If you are an author or a publisher and want a review, you can send me a copy. I’ll read it and, if I like it, my review will show up here. If I don’t like it, it won’t, but I can’t promise there won’t someday be a blog about what not to read (Bibliophobia?), so choose with care.
